Your posting has given me lots of ideas for my Current Events class.

I want the boys to tell me what they think the criteria for an engaging project mean, then have them brainstorm some projects that might meet some or all of the points mentioned.

 We need to get beyond news stories chosen by cnn (even though I find their studentnews site to be an excellent one) and start enlarging their world view via issues that matter to them personally.

There has to be something each one is interested in (tho it may take a bit of digging!).

Love my kids but need to push them.
